South Korea's top office suggested a meeting between President Moon Jae-in and the leaders of the country's two biggest political parties next week,... however, the main opposition rejected the offer.
Newly-appointed senior secretary for political affairs Choi Jae-sung... said he extended Moon's offer to hold talks next Friday during his meeting with Kim Chong-in the interim chair of the conservative United Future Party.
"The United Future Party said that it can't participate in the meeting on August 21st. President Moon's offer for talks is always open. We ask political parties to come together to overcome the coronavirus, rain damage and the economic crisis."
The president held talks with rival parties in February and May as part of an agreement to meet once every quarter.
Moon expressed willingness to sit down for candid discussions on state affairs and to build trust during his parliamentary speech in July.
Cheongwadae didn't mention whether they were going to suggest a new date.
