Good morning to our viewers across the globe, you're watching Arirang's 'The World Now'. I'm Kim Jae-hee.
Mauritius Prime Minister's office said on Monday... that oil leaking from a Japanese cargo ship that ran aground on a coral reef on the island nation's southeast coast on July 25th has stopped.
But the office added the situation remains "very serious", and said the island nation should prepare for the "worst case scenario".
The office explained the ship is still carrying two-thousand tons of oil in its two undamaged oil tanks.
The Prime Minister also said in a televised speech, that some cracks have been seen on the hull of the oil tanker, and warned it's clear that at some point, the ship will "fall apart".
More than one thousand tons of oil has already leaked out and been washed ashore, polluting the area.
Thousands of environmental activists and local residents are working to reduce the damage.
France has sent a military aircraft with pollution control equipment, and Japan has also sent a disaster relief team, consisting of six experts.
But some critics say the response measures came too late.
