Firefighters had a race against time to cut open the safe in order to rescue a child who had climbed inside and accidentally locked the door. The curious youngster, named Xiaoting, 7, had been playing hide and seek with friends while her parents were working in a shop in the town of Houjie, which is near the city of Dongguan in China's Guangdong province. The youngster had only just climbed inside and started panicking when she could not get out, and was heard to be screaming "help" when her mother, identified only by her surname Ms Ye, discovered what had happened. They said that in total the child was trapped inside for no longer than 30 minutes, including the 15 minutes it took for the firefighters to cut the safe open.
