Flood restoration underway in Anseong with more rain forecast

One of the seven cities and counties most heavily affected by the rain and named a "Special Disaster Zone" is Anseong where restoration work is already underway.
But as our Kim Do-yeon reports... even more rain is forecast for the area tonight.
One of the seven cities and counties designated as "Special Disaster Zones" is
Juksan-myeon in the city of Anseong, Gyeonggi-do Province.
Homes and shops in the city center have flooded... and landslides have crashed into homes near the mountains.
The locals are getting some much needed help in restoring these homes and protecting them from further damage.
"The army, police and local residents shovel the mud from the landslide into mud bags to create a stronger barrier. The mud is heavier than normal due to the rain, even snapping some shovels in half."
They work all day, stopping before sunset to stay safe, but nobody knows how long it will take to get back to normal.
"I've been here for decades and I've never seen anything like this. Neither have people who've been here even longer. So far, we've been able to do emergency restoration for only around 20 percent, so it'll take around a month to get things back to how they were."
As of 4 PM, the city had reported 281 people affected by flooding and landslides and one death.
People with nowhere to go have moved to temporary shelters... where they're spaced apart as much as possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
A woman who's been at the shelter since last Sunday opened up about the day her house flooded.
"My husband woke me up at around 7 AM, and I saw water up to just below my knees. I didn't do anything for 30 to 40 minutes, and the water went down. I moved everything important in the house up high and left with nothing."
In the meantime, the city of Anseong has set up a disease control center at the town hall.
This part of Anseong is one of the most heavily affected areas, so high-ranking officials have come to show their support.
But restoration will have to continue with even more rain in the forecast.
