Mumbai residents were forced to wade through waist-high floodwater as the heaviest rainfall since 2005 was dumped on the city.

Footage from August 4 shows locals attempting to cross roads completely submerged by the historic rain.

According to reports, Mumbai suffered its heaviest rainfall since 2005 causing the city's trains to stop running.

There is extensive waterlogging in the city and floodwaters have entered houses in Kandivali and other low-lying areas.
