President Moon Jae-in has emphasized the need to minimize casualties as damage continues to grow amid the torrential rain.
According to the presidential Blue House, President Moon directed the central and local governments to do their utmost in helping citizens stay safe as floods and landslides have been reported across the country.
He also advised the public to keep an eye on advisories and refrain from going outside.
Earlier, Moon called off his scheduled summer vacation to deal with the damage caused by the rain.
This is not the first time the president has had to cancel his summer vacation.
President Moon called off his summer holiday last year to deal with Japan's trade restrictions against South Korea among other things.
