Sourav Ganguly was the leader India needed in the early 2000s. A team which had been hit with match-fixing, a nation with head held low, and amidst all, the game which is pious to many stood ravaged. Sourav Ganguly not only revamped the entire team but instilled a sense of pride in the way we watched cricket. Under his leadership, India went on to beat Australia in Test series in 2001, beat England at Lord’s to win 2002 Natwest Trophy, reached 2003 ODI World Cup final, drew against England in Test series in 2004, and even defeated Pakistan in a Test series in 2005.
