U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says shutting down the American economy for a second time over COVID-19 is NOT on the table.
He told CNBC on Thursday that if the U.S. shuts down the economy, there would be even more economic damage, medical problems and it puts everything else on hold.
Texas has reported three consecutive days of record-high COVID-19 hospitalizations while nine counties in California are showing a spike in new confirmed cases.
Mnuchin added that the Trump administration's primary goal is to get people back to work and he will request additional fiscal spending to boost the economy.
