Endangered softshell turtle rescued after being fished up in southeast India

A rare species of turtle that was caught by fishermen in southeast India was released back into the wild by forest officials.

The reptile, an Indian softshell turtle, was found at the Jambhira Dam in Deuli, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha on June 1 by a group of fishermen.

The forest department measured the turtle as weighing more than 30 kg, and released it back into the water with the help of local people.
