President Moon vows to maintain peace and strengthen national security in Korea

Today marks the 65th Memorial Day here in South Korea, a day to remember the nation's fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country.
At a memorial ceremony, President Moon vowed to continue efforts to bring peace to the Korean peninsula by heightening national defense and security.

President Moon Jae-in reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to bringing peace to the Korean peninsula, claiming that creating a country where there's no war, is the responsibility of the state.
("It's the responsibility of the government to create a war-free peaceful Korean peninsula. The government will do its utmost to strengthen national defense and security to maintain peace.")
Speaking at the 65th Memorial Day ceremony in Daejeon National Cemetery on Saturday, Moon spoke of the the nation's patriots and veterans, claiming that South Korea is experiencing freedom and prosperity thanks to their sacrifices.
Moon said that making efforts to repay their devotion is a must.
"The country should repay all the sacrifices and devotion of our heroes. The government has been striving to support their livelihoods and their families. We will continue efforts to restore their honor by raising compensation for them and by also strengthening medical support."
He also pledged to continue excavation projects to find the remains of the fallen, and return them to their loved ones.
Moon also used the occasion to pay tribute and express condolences to two people who recently lost their lives due to overwork in fighting the coronavirus.
He also thanked the soldiers and military nurses who've been striving to protect the public from the pandemic.
The President said that such acts would make the nation's patriots deeply proud and reassured.
