On World No Tobacco Day 2020, the WHO has called on all young people to join to become a tobacco-free generation. Tobacco leaves may be smoked (in cigarettes, cigars, and pipes), applied to the gums (as dipping and chewing tobacco), or inhaled (as snuff). All tobacco products start with a simple leaf, Mechanization of cigarette manufacturing in the 1880s helped grow the market for cigarettes dramatically, increasing demand for tobacco leaf.
