Before the Oscar-winning movie 'Parasite',... Bong Joon-ho directed the action movie 'Snowpiercer' . Now adapted for the small screen, the new TV Series 'Snowpiercer' is launched this Monday on Netflix.
Our Kim Bo-kyoung talked to a culture critic to find out more.
The TV series adaptation of director Bong Joon-ho's 2013 movie 'Snowpiercer' was launched this Monday through Netflix.
Loosely based on the movie, the series tells the story of passengers on the last train in the world as they travel across the frozen wasteland that is Earth.
Each section of the train is strictly divided into classes,... each with very different lifestyles.
Bong Joon-ho co-directed the 10-episode TV series with Park Chan-wook, who directed award winning movies 'Oldboy' and 'The Handmaiden'.
One culture critic says their cooperation gives the audience another reason to watch the series.
"While director Bong delivers a social message in a witty way,... which is more of a Hollywood style, director Park directs in a European style,... which is grotesque and artistic. I believe the series could be popular with two directors' own strengths brewed together."
The series has already attracted much attention from the global press.
The BBC has praised the series, saying viewers should look no further than this drama to quench their craving for content that tackles issues we are currently facing.
"The reason why Bong's work is attracting lots of fans is because it deals with the issue of 'class'. Snowpiercer shows how people are worried about dropping down from their current class. It also gives us a warning that conflict between classes and even system destruction could happen if we don't take care of such issues."
The TV series can also go into more depth and offer a more detailed plot that the movie couldn't provide due to the lack of time.
The first two episodes are already available on Netflix,... and a new episode will be released every week.
