Good morning to our viewers across the globe, you're watching Arirang's 'The World Now'. I'm Kim Jae-hee.
Hong Kong media tycoon and the owner of the Apple Daily newspaper, Jimmy Lai was released on bail early Wednesday local time, after his arrest on Monday under Beijing's controversial national security law.
Lai was surrounded by media, and Apple Daily supporters as he was escorted out the police station.
"I don't have anything to say. The most important thing is to go home and rest. Nothing to say and I'm tired. Thank you and bye."
Lai is one of the most prominent pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong.
His pro-democracy newspaper, Apple Daily, is known for its condemnation of mainland China's authoritarian rule.
The release comes after Hong Kong authorities arrested ten pro-democracy figures on Monday for vague "national security" crimes.
Hong Kong political activist, Agnes Chow, was also released hours before Lai's release.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday denounced China for Lai's arrest, saying the move indicates China is unlikely to change its position on Hong Kong.
