China has put the small city of Shulan in northeast Jilin province under lockdown as government authorities signalled it could ease some Covid-19 restrictions. The lockdown comes amid fears of a growing cluster in the city of 700,000 people. As of May 19, at least 34 coronavirus cases were reported in Jilin province and neighbouring Liaoning.
