Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. They break their fast with at the time of call to prayer with Iftar. It is the evening meal when Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset. The holiday of Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the next lunar month, Shawwal.
