A gas leak at an LG Polymers plant in southern India on Thursday has killed at least 9 people with more than 300 admitted to hospital.
Among those hospitalized, more than 70 are unconscious, according to police in Andhra Pradesh state.
Police say chemical gas had leaked from two of the plant's 5-thousand-ton tanks but, because of the COVID-19 lockdown, there were significantly fewer workers on site than normal.
However, more than a thousand people in the surrounding area have been forced to evacuate their homes as they have been experiencing difficulty breathing and with sore eyes.
The Indian government has dispatched rescue teams along with the police to investigate.
