Insects dubbed “murder hornets” in media reports because of their potentially deadly stings have turned up for the first time in the US west coast state of Washington. The world’s largest hornet is native to Asia, and it is unknown how they turned up in the US where scientists are now racing to track them down before the invaders pose a risk to already threatened native honeybees.
