As our Choi Jeong-yoon reported, you can receive your disaster relief in various forms including reward points in your credit cards, gift vouchers and certificates.
You should choose wisely based on your spending pattern... or even decide to donate for those in need.
Our Eum Ji-young explains.
Jeong Ji-yeong is a regular at this florist near her workplace and she's been using a special digital gift voucher that she purchased online.
"Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, coupons provide more discounts and I feel like using these could help small businesses in the district."
Not only does it benefit the customer by giving discounts, but the use of these vouchers have been helping businesses as well.
"More and more people are paying with local coupons after the outbreak and unlike card payments, there's no commission charge."
The South Korean government has decided to hand out emergency disaster relief to those who are eligible... in the form of cash, prepaid cards or regional gift certificates.
It differs by districts but customers and businesses echo in one voice that gift certificates with limited use at shops at certain localities are more beneficial.
"Those who choose to receive the funds in the form of local coupons can get about 10 percent more money than with prepaid cards."
"To boost the regional economy and help others who are more in need, many people are donating the emergency disaster funds that they received from the government."
"I decided to donate because I thought I was in a better position than those who were hit harder by the outbreak...including people closing down their businesses."
People can express their will to donate while filling out the online application or donate in person at community centers.
Donations will be made automatically for those who do not apply within three months after the application has been opened.
And those who give their share back can receive 15-percent of tax credits on their donations during their year-end tax adjustments.
