Chariots pulled by oxen distribute bread to villagers in a small Piedmont village, like in the 13th century, during the plague epidemic

In Caresana, in Piedmont, a race of ox-drawn chariots is held every year, a tradition dating back to the 13th century, when blessed bread was brought to the poorest people by animals after the plague epidemic. For years, the delivery of bread was no longer done. But this year, due to COVID-19, the ancestral version has been reintroduced with the delivery of bread to the population. Four chariots pulled by two oxen each and a team of four people per chariot roamed the streets of this small town, distributing the bread in closed bags.
