Kentucky Has Highest Spike in Coronavirus Cases Following Lockdown Protests Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced
273 new cases of COVID-19 have emerged,
the highest number of new cases yet. According to the Kentucky Department of Health,
the current state case count stands at 2,960,
with 148 reported fatalities. The news comes after protests erupted against the state's restrictions that have forced over 500,000 residents to file for unemployment assistance. In response to the spike, Gov. Beshear said the state will not yet reopen businesses or relax restrictions. 'We’re still in the midst of the fight,' said Beshear,
who added that the state will follow guidelines
laid out by the White House.
