NYPD breaks up party held despite COVID-19 orders

New York police officers arrested three people after they broke up an illegal party on Monday (April 20).

Party-goers were seen leaving the premises, some covering their faces, with summonses or in some cases handcuffs.

One of the attendees referred to the event as a "social distance holiday party where you had to bring your gloves and mask."

NYPD vehicles with lights flashing filled both sides of 23rd Street near the Flatiron Building as detectives walked in an out of the unassuming building.

Inside, police say they found 40 people at a weed party, hosted by a marijuana edibles company.

38 people received summonses for trespassing, five people received summonses tied to marijuana.

Two people had previous warrants for failing to appear for non-violent offences, one person was arrested in regards to a previous investigation for burglary, a police official said.
