The U.S. has flown multiple surveillance aircraft near the Korean Peninsula in the past few days... in an apparent move to strengthen its monitoring of the North.
Private aviation tracker Aircraft Spots said a U.S. Air Force RC-135-U Combat Sent was spotted Wednesday over the East Sea... following North Korea's launch of cruise missiles the day before.
The day of that launch, the U.S. also flew an E-8C Joint Stars over South Korea.
The Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chief of Staff, General Mark Milley, played down the significance of the North's launches, saying they were not (quote) "particularly provocative or threatening" to the U.S.
He said they're tied to a North Korean public holiday,... the Day of the Sun,... when the North celebrates the birthday of its late founder Kim Il-sung.
