With commerce at a virtual standstill because of the coronavirus, some in South Korea are looking for businesses in trouble and trying to help them out in these trying times.
They've started something called the "Good Customer Campaign" - it's a campaign that promotes purchase from farms, restaurants and businesses that have been particuarly hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak.
Our Yoon Jung-min reports... the South Korean government has even joined the campaign.
It's made advancement payments for meals that government employees will have in the future.
A local food institute in Gyeonggi-do Province has launched a so-called 'Good Customer Campaign',... to help local farms that have been hit by the impact of COVID-19.
As farms supplying fruit or vegetables for school meals have struggled because schools remain closed over coronavirus fears,... the institute has begun promoting the farms' products.
Fruit and vegetables from the farms are packed in a box,... and sent to customers, instead of schools.
Online orders have been sharply increasing.
"We have done the campaign three times. During the first campaign, we sold more than 6-thousand boxes, and 16-thousand during the second one. This time, we plan to sell 32-thousand boxes."
"Food suppliers are not the only ones suffering from the pandemic. Other industries, including flower farms and restaurants, have also seen their sales decline."
Around February to March this year, the usually high demand for flowers due to graduations and school events plummeted as these events were canceled or delayed due to the outbreak.
To help suffering flower farms, local flower shops have been promoting sales of flowers from the farms at much lower prices.
"Small flower shops had hard times and so did flower farms. The farms were on the verge of abandoning flowers they had cultivated for sales this year. Amid this crisis, we have launched this good customer campaign for a win-win situation."
To help restaurants, the South Korean Government, including the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, has started to pay restaurants in advance for meals they plan to have in the future.
Despite every business having a hard time,... the Good Customer Campaign is doing what it can to help farmers and small shops to weather the crisis.
