Burgundy’s New Cote d’Or Label Is Catching on Among the Region's Wine Producers
  • 4 years ago
For casual wine drinkers, Burgundy wines can be a real headache—even before you drink too much of them. But if you like Burgundy wine but don't always like the high price tags, Cote d'Or might be for you. It's a freshly anointed geographical denomination that's more specific than the generic Bourgogne. Cote d'Or is a single AOC that covers the combined territory of two very prestigious areas. The rules for Cote d'Or are stricter than Bourgogne—hopefully making it a step up in quality. And the production numbers are backing up the excitement levels. Over 2.5 million bottles were produced under the designation in 2018. That means you're more likely to start seeing the Cote d'Or denomination when purchasing Burgundy wines.
