Five passengers had to be rescued when their cable car stalled in mid-air due to a technical issue in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand.

The incident took place on February 4 in the "Lake City" of Nainital, a popular hill station.

Visuals show the ground management staff of the cable car service rescuing the trapped passengers, evacuating one person at a time using ropes to the valley floor.

The stalled cars were returned to the station after the rescue operation was completed.

Reports also state that the management did react promptly to the situation and evacuated the tourists within a few hours.

The cable car service was launched 35 years ago and was due for a maintenance check.
