Yesterday on ABC News, Alabama Senator Doug Jones seemingly left the door open to acquitting Trump in the Senate impeachment trial if Democrats fail to “connect the dots” on Trump’s guilt: https://namtranganh.blogspot.com/2019/12/sen-doug-jones-described-allegations.html
I watched the video of Jones explaining this on ABC and while he did leave the door open to voting against impeaching Trump, I felt like he was trying more to suggest he would be ‘impartial’ than indicating how he might vote.
And there’s good reason for him to do this. He can’t afford to sound like most Democrats, which are stark-raving mad over Trump. Jeff Sessions is likely give him a huge run for his money in 2020 as he fights to regain his Senate seat and Jones knows that he’s got to seem as ‘open-minded’ as possible to even give himself a fighting chance.
