For people who don’t live in China, it’s hard to imagine a bumping hip-hop scene there. But hip-hop is growing in the mainland, and local rappers are big on Chinese social media.

But how do you discover them if you’re not in China? Enter Stanley Yang, aka 22K, founder of the first platform to promote Chinese hip-hop abroad.

In 2010, he started Zhong.TV to showcase the latest rappers from China. The channel now boasts more than 200,000 subscribers and 120 million total views.

In this video, we dive into 22K’s past and how losing one of his closest friends changed the course of his life forever.
