A monitor lizard was captured after getting stuck in the gap between two buildings.

The 28lbs reptile lashed out after being disturbed then fled onto a garage roof - only to slip over the edge.

Animal handlers from the Pieng Yieng Tai rescue team arrived to snare the beast in Chonburi, Eastern Thailand, on Sunday (November 10) afternoon.

They managed to drag it out and tape its mouth shut, only for one worker to collapse through the roof.

He was injured and the monitor lizard escaped but was eventually caught hiding behind a washing machine.

A rescue worker involved in catching the lizard said it was around 4ft long. He added: ''The lizard was first found hiding in a pile of wood and became very aggressive when it was disturbed. It ran away and was then stuck in the gap.

"When we caught it, one of our team fell through the roof with the wild lizard and he was wounded by a piece of ceramic roof and the lizard's head was also bleeding.''

After being caught, the monitor lizard was returned to the forest.
