The U.S. is reportedly demanding South Korea pay five times more next year for the stationing of American troops here.
South Korean lawmaker Yoon Sang-hyun, who heads the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee was at a dinner yesterday in Seoul with the U.S. negotiator, James DeHart.
Yoon told broadcaster KBS today... that he asked DeHart whether the U.S. is asking for 4-point-7 billion dollars for next year's agreement.
According to Yoon, DeHeart told him that amount sounded about right -- to which Yoon replied that South Korea cannot accept such a big increase.
The Trump administration has repeatedly demanded the Korean government pay more for its defense,... while Seoul has stressed that the costs should shared in a way that's "reasonable and fair."
The allies are expected to hold another of negotiations in Seoul later this month.
