‘Little Miss Sumo’ wrestles Japanese tradition keeping women out of the ring
  • 4 years ago
British documentary filmmaker Matt Kay produced Little Miss Sumo, because he wanted to challenge gender inequality in the world of Japan’s national sport of sumo wrestling. In Japan, only men are allowed to wrestle professionally even though many girls participate from school age. Matt Kay follows the story of Hiyori, a 20-year-old female sumo wrestler who hopes to smash her own impenetrable glass ceiling.
