Back in the 70's, South Korea's economy got a big boost from a rural development project called the Saemaeul Movement.
Now President Moon Jae-in hopes to use it for peace and prosperity in the international community.
"With the spread of the Saemaeul Movement, we're sharing our experience of economic growth with developing countries, helping build their confidence that they can prosper. As a responsible middle power, we will continue to help the international community prosper all together."
Moon was speaking at an event in Suwon earlier today attended by Saemaeul Movement leaders.
He said Korea and ASEAN will discuss related cooperation during their special summit next month,... to help member states advance their economies.
He also thanked the leaders, saying their commitment in times of crisis will never be forgotten.
He especially pointed to their efforts to collect gold to overcome the 1997 financial crisis.
