A range of events are being held here in Seoul to celebrate 'Korean Film Day' on Sunday.
And there's extra interest this year as it marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Korean cinema.
Our Kim Jae-hee shares with us the highlights of the 'Korean Film 100 Years Gwanghwamun Festival'.
Movie lovers headed to Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul this Saturday for the start of the two-day film festival.
"Co-hosted by the 'Committee for Korean Film 100 Years' and the 'Korean Film Council', the festival not only commemorates a century of Korean cinema, but also looks to the future of the Korean film industry."
At the event, visitors can experience what it's like to be the main character from the movie 'Train to Busan',... a famous zombie-action film from 2016 that gained much attention worldwide.
Participants are given a short video clip filmed and edited in the field,... with their name added to the ending credits.
At the 'VR experience zone', visitors can experience what it will be like to watch movies in the future with the help of virtual reality.
"I came from Mexico, because I knew about the film festival. It's really amazing and I'm really surprised by this happening right now, and I'm so glad that Korean films are having an impact outside of the country."
Throughout the two-day festival, a 100-part omnibus film made by 100 Korean filmmakers will be screened, showcasing the history of the film industry.
There's also an exhibition looking back at the past century of film, with influential Korean movie posters laid out in chronological order.
"I hope today's festival motivates visitors to be more interested in many types of movies, including small films and not just big blockbusters. I also hope it encourages those working in the Korean film industry."
The festival ends on Sunday evening with a concert featuring famous actors and K-pop stars.
