Samsung de facto leader Lee Jae-yong's bribery retrial begins Friday
  • 5 years ago
The retrial of Samsung Electronics vice chair Lee Jae-yong gets underway today,... after the country's highest court overturned a previous ruling.
The retrial centers on a bribery conviction against Lee, who had been given a two-and-a-half year suspended sentence for seeking favor from the now-jailed former president Park Geun-hye, in exchange for the donation of three horses to Park's confidante.
Arriving at the Seoul High Court this morning Lee said he was sorry to the Korean people for causing such trouble.
The de facto head of Samsung Group had already served one-year of detention but was freed last year after the appeals court reduced the lower court's original five-year jail term.
