South Korea and China will hold high-level defense talks this week for the first time in 5 years.
According to Seoul's defense ministry, South Korea's Vice Defense Minister Park Jae-min and China's deputy chief of the Joint Staff Department, Lieutenant General Shao Yuanming, will sit down on Monday for the fifth strategic defense dialogue between the two sides.
The dialogue, since 2011, has been a key communication channel in dealing with both cooperation and sensitive issues.
But it was halted in 2014 as South Korea worked to deploy the THAAD missile defense system and China opposed it.
At Monday's talks, the two sides are expected to discuss the THAAD issue, the repeated entry of Chinese aircraft into South Korea's air defense zone, and setting up additional military hotlines.
