Electric air taxi port to be showcased in Singapore

SINGAPORE — German aviation startup company Volocopter is collaborating with British drone infrastructure and deliveries company Skyports to build the VoloPort, an electric station for flying taxis.
The VoloPort will be unveiled at the Marina Bay in Singapore later this month.
The VoloPort prototype in Singapore will include passenger lounges and will allow visitors to experience pre-flight check-in and boarding procedures, according to Volocopter's project website.
Visitors will also have the chance to sit inside the Volocopter while it is on the ground, reports Bloomberg.
A test pilot will be inside the air taxi vehicle as it takes off from the VoloPort for a three minute demo flight on October 22.
Skyports Managing Director Duncan Walker told Bloomberg that visitors can provide feedback for the VoloPort so that they can tweak the final design before the air taxi service launches in 2025.
He explained that the VoloPort was built in China and then taken apart to be reassembled in Singapore.
Skyports' project website explains that the VoloPort will include a range of modular designs which can be adapted to fit different environments such as rooftops, parking lots and other urban locations.
The air taxi flight will likely cost around US$3.75 per mile, which is roughly double the amount of money a ground-based ride would cost, according to Bloomberg.
