Japan will tap Koji Tomita as its new ambassador to South Korea.
According to local media reports on Wednesday, the Japanese cabinet will appoint Tomita as its top envoy in Seoul on October 22nd.
Tomita is known to have a deep understanding of Korea as he has several years of diplomatic experience working at the Japanese Embassy in Seoul.
He has also served as the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's North American Affairs Bureau.
NHK says the decision could be seen as part of Japan's efforts to find ways to mend the strained Seoul-Tokyo relations.
