A cow was rescued by villagers in east India after falling into a deep well, prompting them to hoist it out in an amazing show of teamwork.

The incident took place the morning of October 8 in Deoria village in Chappra district, Bihar.

The cow, which belongs to a man named Mohammed Nizamuddin, was roaming in the area and suddenly fell into the open 25-foot-well.

Luckily the well was filled with water at the time, leaving it uninjured but still trapped.

The other herd animals then surrounded the well and began braying to raise the alarm, causing the villagers to investigate and discover the trapped bovine.

According to one of the rescuers, Suresh Yadav: "I jumped into the well to tie a thick rope around the cow to lift it up, people above the well lifted the cow after three hours of effort."
