A new suspected case of African swine fever has been reported near South Korea's west coast.
The agriculture ministry said Sunday that that it was detected at a slaughterhouse in Hongseong County,... about 150 kilometers south of the capital.
The virus is harmless to humans but fatal to pigs, and until now, cases have been concentrated near the border with North Korea.
But if this case is confirmed, it could mean the disease is spreading throughout the country.
Quarantine measures, though, are in place at farms and other facilities, and in total the authorities are set to have culled some 90-thousand pigs.
