South Korea's foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha is expected to have met with her newly-appointed Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, on Thursday afternoon in New York... as tensions continue to simmer between the two sides.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly,... but specific details have yet to be released.
It's the first time for the two ministers to meet,... and they're expected to have touched upon various issues, including Japan's trade curbs on South Korea, as well as the South Korean top court's ruling on Japan's wartime forced labor of Koreans.
It's also expected that Kang once again urged Japan to provide the world with an appropriate explanation on how it plans to deal with the buildup of radioactive wastewater from Fukushima.
But, as this is their first meeting, no actual progress is expected to be made on these issues.
