US President Donald Trump told the UN General Assembly that his government is “closely monitoring” ongoing civil unrest in Hong Kong, and urged China to honour its agreement with Britain to protect the city’s freedom and “democratic ways of life”. In an address to the 74th United Nations General Assembly on September 24, 2019, Trump also attacked China over its trade policies and said he hopes the two countries can reach a mutually beneficial deal to end their ongoing trade war.
