Japan will not invite S. Korea to naval fleet review in October due to souring ties

Japan has revealed it won't be inviting South Korea to its international naval review next month due to their strained bilateral ties.
At a press briefing Tuesday,... Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Tokyo believes the two sides have yet to create the right conditions for an invitation due to their conflicts over trade and historical issues.
Seven countries, including the U.S., will attend,...while China will be joining for the first time.
Asked about Japan reportedly having failed to accurately track the direction of short-range missiles recently fired by North Korea,... Suga said the end of the military intel-sharing pact with Seoul would not significantly impact Japan's defense capacity.
South Korea decided to terminate the pact last month following Tokyo's retaliatory export curbs.
