Tsunami evacuation site left abandoned in Indonesia
  • 5 years ago
A temporary evacuation site built by the national disaster management authority in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia has been left abandoned.

The video, filmed on July 20, 2019 shows the alarming conditions of the graffiti covered site due to local authorities not maintaining the building.

The filmer told Newsflare: “some devices such as electrical installations and tsunami early warning sirens are lost or stolen.”

The site was built in 2009 after a 7.6 earthquake shook Padang City and will be the place of evacuation for thousands of residents in the event of an earthquake or tsunami.

According to Republika, despite the destruction caused by Palu tsunami in 2018, which reminded Padang residents of their geological vulnerability, the evacuation site remains neglected.
