00:17 Mount Ulaanboatar on the island of New Britain in Papua New Guinea erupted at around 3.30
00:22 pm Monday, spewing volcanic smoke as high as 15,000 metres.
00:27 The agency said, quoting the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre in Darwin, Australia.
00:32 The risk of a tsunami reaching Japan, along with other possible impacts of the volcanic
00:36 eruption, was being assessed.
00:38 First tsunami waves could reach Izu and Ogasawara Island about three hours after the shaking
00:43 caused by the eruption, Japan Meteorological Agency said.
00:47 The weather agency urged coastal residents to stay cautious in case of a delayed tsunami.

01:23 Olavon is one of the most active volcanoes in Papua New Guinea, which sits on the Pacific
01:28 Ring of Fire, the arc of seismic faults around the Pacific Ocean where much of the world's
01:33 earthquake and volcanic activity occurs.
01:36 Olavon has repeatedly erupted since the 1700s and had a last major eruption in 2019.
