S. Korea's ruling party, Justice Ministry to discuss ways to reform prosecution

Officials from South Korea's ruling Democratic Party and the Justice Ministry will meet in the coming hours to discuss the Moon administration's judicial and prosecutorial reform drive.
Top of the agenda is revising guidelines for prosecutors... to limit alleged leaks to the media.
One option is to allow the justice minister to order the surveillance of prosecutors suspected of being leakers.
While the ruling party and government say the move is part of efforts to reform the prosecution,... the issue has become the center of heated debate -- given that a probe is underway into the family of newly-appointed justice minister Cho Kuk,... over allegations of dubious investments in a private equity fund and other ethical issues.
Also to be discussed are key reform bills,... including the possible creation of an independent body to probe allegations against high-ranking government officials.
