Federer, Wawrinka to meet in Monte Carlo finals

MANILA, Philippines – It will be an all-Swiss final between Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka at the Monte Carlo Masters. Federer advanced to the finals after beating defending champion Novak Djokovic, 7-5, 6-2. Federer had to fend off two break points and had to score five straight to take the tightly contested first set. Then it would be all Federer in the second set as a wrist injury seemed to bother Djokovic’s play. Meanwhile, Wawrinka easily defeated David Ferrer, 6-1, 7-6. During the game, the Swiss showed prime form, using powerful backhands to force Ferrer in difficult spots. The finals, which takes place Sunday, will be the first all-Swiss final since 2000. It will also be the first time that Federer and Wawrinka will meet for a title. -- News Now, ANC, April 20, 2014.
