MANILA – Seven men allegedly involved in stealing jeepneys in Laguna were arrested in separate raids in Manila and Caloocan Monday morning. The suspects were caught with jeepney parts believed to be from stolen units in Laguna, police said. Based on the information from one of the suspects, Russel Aguilar, two other junk shops in San Andres and Tondo districts in Manila believed to be destination points of the jeepney parts were raided. Four others working in the Manila junk shops were also invited for questioning. A barangay kagawad also tagged in the illegal operations is now being hunted down. Police said the raids were in response to the growing number of jeepney theft incidents in Laguna. At least 12 jeepneys, plying to and from Calamba, Cabuyao, Biñan and San Pedro, have been stolen since December last year. – report from Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
