MANILA – Three suspected robbers were killed in an encounter with policemen in Quiapo, Manila before dawn Monday. Chief Inspector Lorenzo Cobre of the Criminal Investigation Group (CIDG) said he and his fellow policemen were supposed to serve a warrant of arrest against a suspected criminal when they were fired at by the motorcycle-riding suspects, who thought that they were the subjects of the police operation. "Itong motorsiklo, crossing. Tapos eh since nauuna ang police mobile akala siguro ng motorsiklo haharangin sila, biglang pinaputukan ang mobile. Dahil doon hinabol na sila ng tropa," Cobre said. Two women claiming they had been robbed by the slain suspects later surfaced. Police recovered .38-caliber pistols from the suspects, who were shot dead at the Recto Underpass. – report from Jerome Lantin, ABS-CBN News
