4 hurt as man runs amok in Bulacan

MANILA – Four people were wounded, with one in critical condition, after a man ran amok in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. The suspect, identified as Danilo Vellas, shot several people after fighting with his live-in partner, Elaine Marian Conocido, in San Jose Del Monte City. Conocido, who was shot by Vellas in the arm and leg, said their fight started after the suspect accused her of having an affair. She claimed Vellas is a drug addict and used to beat her. A neighbor of the couple, identified as William Sagib, is in critical condition after he was shot by Vellas. Two others, Ronnel Gipanao and Ayrold Medina, were also shot by the suspect while he was running away from policemen. Vellas, who was also injured, was eventually arrested in Caloocan City. He is facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, frustrated homicide, and reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury. - Umagang Kay Ganda, 16 January 2014
