Napoles could fire back at whistle-blowers: de Lima

MANILA - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima is not expecting much when Janet Lim Napoles appears before the Senate tomorrow, Thursday. De Lima said she expects nothing more than a spectacle when Napoles faces senators for the first time. "I can only foresee 2 scenarios. Number 1, nothing...complete denial. She will just consistently and repeatedly invoke her constitutional right to remain silent, against self incrimination. Probably just answer the mundane questions and not the material ones," she said. "Number 2, there may be some exciting part in the sense that she'll be turning the tables on the whistle-blowers especially Benhur Luy. Maybe pagkakataon na niya, confrontation na sabihin niya na kayo may kagagawan niyan. Wala akong kinalaman dyan. It's a good copy, a spectacle na medyo magkakainitan in that respect but I'm not really sure that it would go into the meat of the inquiry," she added. De Lima said the first batch of plunder complaints filed before the Ombudsman remains strong. The justice chief also confirmed there is an ongoing probe in other scams that mave have involved fake NGOs set up by Napoles. MORNINGS@ANC, November 6, 2013
