As Japan's second round of trade curbs against South Korea took effect,... Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga has once again emphasized that Tokyo's decision to remove Seoul from its whitelist is to practice proper export management... not to impose economic retaliations over historical issues.
But quite ironically, he also called on Seoul to address the compensation issue of Japan's wartime forced labor in a wise manner, saying it's the biggest problem that's in the way of the two countries.
He added that the Japanese government is determined to urge Seoul to resolve any violations of international law caused by South Korea's Supreme Court ruling.
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the South Korean victims last year.
